• The first popular "arcade games" were early amusement park midway games such as shooting galleries, ball toss games, and the earliest coin-operated machines, such as those that claim to tell a person their fortune or played mechanical music.
• Pinball was banned from the early 1940s to the mid-1970s in most of America's big cities, including New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. It was considered a form of gambling.
• Pac-Man spawned ten arcade game sequels: Ms. Pac-Man, Super Pac-Man, Pac-Man Plus, Baby Pac-Man, Professor Pac-Man, Jr. Pac-Man, Pac & Pal, Pac-Land, Pac-Mania, and Pac-Man VR.
• Centipede was the first arcade video game developed by a woman.
• In 1966, Sega introduced an electro-mechanical game called Periscope. It was an early submarine simulator and light gun shooter which used lights and plastic waves to simulate sinking ships from a submarine; it was the first game to cost a quarter.
